Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the
things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the
bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails.
Explore. Dream. Discover.

My love affair with travelling began not too long ago with
one somewhat spontaneous trip to Europe. While I was still in university seven
years ago, I realized I had a few weeks between the end of summer school and
the start of the fall semester. I had been to Germany twice before (once with
my father when I was 10 and again for a student exchange when I was 13) and
decided it might be a nice idea to visit some of my relatives there... This
sweet plan soon took on a life of its own and evolved into a two-month long
trip around Europe (at some point, I decided to scrap the idea of taking a
summer course and just take a full course load in the fall). I had always
wanted to see if Eastern Europe was really as depressing and corrupt as I had
imagined it to be (it was not…at least not to the extent that I had been led to
believe), and I had never been to Paris or London…
After these two months had passed (and I had my passport
stolen only once), I had officially caught the travel
bug. I had realized how
small the world really is, and I am only a plane ride away from any place my
heart desires. From that point on, every break from school was filled with some
sort of travelling. The first few trips of mine were to Europe (I had also
begun a relationship with a man in Germany who would later become my husband),
and I went on to take courses in Germany and the United States, as well as earn
a degree in Hungary.
After we were married and “settled” in Canada, my husband
and I have tried to use almost every opportunity to explore the world and see
something new. Sometimes, these endeavours lead us to faraway countries, and
other times, we find something fascinating in our own back yard.
With this blog, I want to record my voyages—great and
small—and collect my plans for future travels. The world is full of wonder, and
I have only begun my peregrinations!
